Special Government Employee Corey Lewandowski is no longer special [View all]
(NewsNation) Corey Lewandowski, a special government employee who served as a top adviser to former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, no longer has a role with the DHS, a spokesperson confirmed to NewsNation on Saturday.
Last week, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee called for an investigation, saying that almost immediately after entering the agency, Lewandowski exercised outsized influence over DHS far beyond what a special government employee is authorized to do.
Earlier this year, The Wall Street Journal reported that Noem and Lewandowski constantly berated senior DHS staff members and required agency employees to undergo lie detector tests. The report also indicated that Lewandowski fired a Coast Guard pilot for not transferring a weighted blanket belonging to Noem from one government jet to another.
As a special government employee, Lewandowskis volunteer role was not to exceed 130 days over one year from when he started on Feb. 11, 2025. A spokesperson for Lewandowski said that in his volunteer role with DHS, Lewandowski was not involved with any conversations about seeking government contracts.
