In reply to the discussion: Fetterman to oppose Democratic check on Trump's Iran war powers [View all]pat_k
(13,459 posts)Fetterman is actively opposing fundamental Democratic Party moral principles, undermining "red line" positions of the Democratic Senate, and advancing Republican priorities. As far as I'm concerned, that goes way beyond the sort of policy differences that we respectfully hammer out and debate within the Democratic "family." And I could be wrong, but I suspect if an exception to the "Don't bash Democratic public figures" rule were requested in his case, it might be granted.
When those with D after their names do things like join with Republican's to override the veto of a Democratic governor, a line must be drawn -- as Clayton Anderson did in NC. (Denied turncoat Dems access to Votebuilder, a critical organizing tool normally offered free to all Democratic candidates. All lost primaries by something like 40-50 points.)
Further more, "Support Democrats" is NOT an admonition against criticizing a Democratic elected or mounting a primary challenge to a Democratic elected. It is about supporting Democratic nominees. And of course, there are exceptions to that too. (e.g., NE Democratic Party support for Independent Dan Osborn over MAGA plant running as a Democrat -- if Cindy Burbank somehow fails to win the nomination and drop out to stop the asshole.)
And just a refresher:
Do not post support for Republicans or independent/third-party "spoiler" candidates. Do not state that you are not going to vote, or that you will write-in a candidate that is not on the ballot, or that you intend to vote for any candidate other than the official Democratic nominee in any general election where a Democrat is on the ballot.
Do not post anything that smears Democrats generally, or that is intended to dissuade people from supporting the Democratic Party or its candidates. Don't argue there is no difference between Republicans and Democrats.
Why we have this rule: Democratic Underground is an online community for politically liberal people who understand the importance of working together to elect more Democrats and fewer Republicans to all levels of American government, and as such we expect our members to support and vote for Democrats at election time. Rare exceptions are granted at the sole discretion of the DU Administrators. (Current exceptions: Dan Osborn for U.S. Senate, Nebraska)
Don't bash Democratic public figures
Do not post disrespectful nicknames, insults, or highly inflammatory attacks against any Democratic public figures. Do not post anything that could be construed as bashing, trashing, undermining, or depressing turnout for any Democratic general election candidate, and do not compare any Democratic general election candidate unfavorably to their general election opponent(s).
Why we have this rule: Our forum members support and admire a wide variety of Democratic politicians and public figures. Constructive criticism is always welcome, but our members don't expect to see Democrats viciously denigrated on this website. This rule also applies to Independents who align themselves with Democrats (eg: Bernie Sanders)
