2. Interesting analogy.

Purgatory is about being deprived of what you need, in order to atone for sins, but not being worthy of damnation..

It implies guilt, and sanction, but ultimately moving on after a period of pain. It's finite and purposeful.

It isn't a second chance, but a sanction then release for the flawed but worthy.

I'll have to think on this one some more...
