(4,990 posts)Swalwell turned me off because of his divorce and because of his lack of military service. His snarky social media posts critical of Trump did not impress me. Yes, he was in our corner on the impeachment issue, and he does have fortitude when squaring off again political foes. But, overall, he seems to have a bent to pursue racy amorous adventures and high flying real estate deals. I know of no significant efforts he had made for any charitable or altruistic causes.
The GOP serves up a good share of combat veterans. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell (a Republican) is from Allegheny County. He narrowly lost the 2020 Pennsylvania 17th District Congressional House race to Democrat Connor Lamb. Parnell has an impressive combat record. He was shot in the back of the neck (resulting in seepage of spinal fluid) but kept rallying his men. In 2021, he geared up for another run for a House seat. However, word got out that he had domestic incidents with his estranged wife over child custody. I think PTSD had something to do with that. Ultimately, he abandoned that second run for a House seat.
JFK was heroic in WWII. Tell-all books about his personal time in the White House paint a picture of a man with issues.
No one is perfect. The high pressure in the top rungs of political service can bring out the worst aspects of the politician's nature. We have to make our voting choices based on who we think is the better candidate.
