(11,011 posts)Seven weeks is forever in an election. There will be plenty of time to coalesce in this cycle. End of April is where I start drawing the line.
We've been getting these panicked drop out stories since back in January or February. And stories of that nature tend to benefit the people who are in the lead at the time.
I'm content to the let the process play out, and today we're getting a lesson on why that's important. Swalwell has been one of the top-polling candidates so far. Imagine if people dropped out, endorsed him, and then this stuff came out later. It would have been a far bigger mess.
It's precisely because we have so much time left that we can absorb this sort of thing without too much trouble.
Full disclosure: I have never liked Swalwell precisely because I've known these rumors for a while through friends in local politics - I was honestly shocked at the audacity of him running - and I'm a leaning Steyer person right now.
