29. In the late 60s, I remember being in Math class in what was called junior high back then

and asking the teacher why I had to learn algebra when all I was going to do when I grew up was get married and sit home watching TV all day. Such lofty goals. By the time I graduated high school, I had left that notion way behind me, thank goodness! The last thing in the world I wanted to do was get married and "sit home all day."

My first boyfriend, my first love, said "no wife of mine is going to work" and that didn't sit well with me at all. That, and his saying that his mother insists that her grandchildren call her Meemaw, drove a wedge between us that couldn't be fixed. Apologies to all those who call their grandmothers Meemaw but I was from Michigan and had never heard that word before and to me, it just didn't sound right.

Anyway, my point is, in the late 60s and early 70s, to get married out of high school and become a homemaker was considered the norm, but this is 2026. Women don't have to do that anymore. We don't have to go to college solely to snag ourselves a good husband. If that's what a woman chooses to do, God bless her and she can have at it. But now we have choices. Nobody should be telling us what we SHOULD do or how we should "behave" in a marriage. As was stated by another poster above, what happens to the trad wife when hubby turns 45 and wants to be single again and leaves her with no marketable skills?
