But I can see the results of tectonic movement at the beach. The Australian plate is pretty fast moving to the NE. Couple of months ago there were earthquakes along the SA / NT border - a bit south of Alice Springs. When scientists visited, they found that, unusually, the ground had opened up.

I suspect the plate movement was 'snagged' on an orogen - a range of underground mountains unseen on the surface. Then, like the San Andreas, it shifted and jumped the snag.

The rocks, which I know pretty well, all apear to be closer to the sand. Distant reefs have become slightly visible, and at low tide the rocks drain differently.

This affects Oz, but more importantly, the islands to the north - Indonesia. There appears to have been an uptick in tectonic activity around this section of the Ring of Fire.

Who knows what effects is has on the rest of the plates? And a big good morning! Waiting for friends and we're taking the dogs down to inspect the rocks and look for whales.
