Someday there will be a civilization that spreads across the galaxy, and at this point it looks like nobody else is doing that yet. Making a step toward a more Star-Trek-like future is a positive move, I think.

Mars’s atmosphere actually cuts quite a lot of radiation compared to the Moon or any smaller body we might inhabit. Surface dwellings with windows are perfectly feasible.
