BISMARCK — President Donald Trump traveled to North Dakota on Wednesday to help kick off the celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary over the Fourth of July holiday, and to help open a facility dedicated to a predecessor who occupied the White House more than a century before him.

Trump's flight into Bismarck Wednesday morning was the maiden voyage of a refurbished Boeing 747 gifted by Qatar that will serve as Air Force One. The plane featuring a red, white, dark blue and gold paint scheme selected by Trump landed at the Bismarck Airport just after 10:30 am.

The Federal Aviation Administration restricted airplane traffic around Bismarck from 10 a.m to 11:30 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday for the president's arrival and departure. The agency also restricted airplane traffic in Medora from late morning to late afternoon, as Trump was heading there to help dedicate the new Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library and make a speech.

Interior Secretary and former North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum traveled with Trump.

Trump descended the steps from Air Force One followed by sons Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr.; Donald Trump Jr.'s new wife, Bettina Trump; and Burgum and former first lady Kathyn Burgum, both of whom donned light-brown cowboy hats. Trump shook hands and chatted briefly with U.S. Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., who met him at the bottom of the steps, then boarded Marine One, the presidential helicopter, for the trip west to help kick off the grand opening this week of the Roosevelt Libary. The Burgums and the others on the plane boarded V-22 Ospreys.

The Ospreys and Marine One arrived in Bismarck over the weekend. Marine One was aboard a C-17 military transport plane. The arrival of all the aircraft generated a great deal of buzz on social media.
