(15,734 posts)Bigoted Populists and grifters who gain power over the group by hyping emotionally charged history and old grievances to turn off the critical thinking skills of people who basically just want to go through their lives.
Authoritarians use the term to divide groups of population that otherwise might dilute "absolute" power.
That's why a lot of narrow hierarchical groups will send off or encourage the excess young men (and the few uppity women) to leave the group to "make their way" through some sort of mission for the state, go fight in useless land grabs or petty tribal raids - or outright expell them from the community.
A greater number of people actually able to live their lives and live cooperatively in relative security means there is less social power and fewer "resources" able to be concentrated at the top by one greedy party or family.
So, "Never Again" is both aspirational for a healthy community and a tactic for a populist or fear monger.
Who is using the term and how are they using it?
Is it a group dedicated to equal protection for everyone under governance and law, or is it a group that wants to get rid of inconvenient folks and demonized "outsiders" for their political benefit?
