2. Some socialism to put a check on capitalism

is a good system. Not perfect, there are humans involved, so perfection is off the table anyway, but it can curb the worst abuses of capitalism and make a relatively decent life for nearly everyone possible.

Unfortunately, we're governed by one party that seeks to destroy even a pretense of a decent life for those they deem insufficiently wealthy (and thus undeserving of anything good in life) and one that makes a good effort, but is stuck in the trap of having to court wealthy donors, who insist that the poor must remain poor and without services in order to maintain their extreme wealth.

For a society to function, some socialism is necessary (police, fire departments, water and sewer systems, etc.)

If our country were run by libertarians, we'd have sewage in the dirt roads in front of our houses and any city we ever built in ashes because they are even more "I've got mine, now fuck you" than Republicans.

But, we're likely to remain in the push and pull of who the billionaires decide to support at any given moment.

Not feeling super positive about this system these days.
