Tom Kean: Disappeared nearly 4 months for depression? [View all]

Ok. I do not like being a person who questions how debilitating major depression can be.

But here I am. A person who has suffered with major depression for periods of my life questioning WTF went on with this man.

I don't know. Perhaps I'm jealous that he was able to disappear off the face of his life for four months, but however incapacitated I may have been, i never "disappeared" from my life in that way. I have never known anyone else suffering major depression who disappeared in that way.

I cannot imagine a treatment that required a four month, unexplained disappearance from one's job

I cannot imagine a treatment that required complete secrecy about one's condition.

I cannot imagine a treatment that required a four month absence of one's family from their home. (And his family home happens to be near where I once lived in Westfield. As per NYT reports from neighbors when he disappeared, they did too.)

IDK. But I think, perhaps unfairly, something else was going on. Psychotic break requiring hospitalization? Rehab??

Guess it doesn't really matter, but something seems way off about it.
