15. Demagoguery that works at 45% won't work at 28%

So far, Trump hasn't linked Cuba with the communists that are overtaking our cities. There is obviously no evidence of that. I'm not sure he has any particular plan here. It seems to me, this is all about Mamdani, and the string of other progressive wins since then. It is about a massive outrage as Americans understand just how much the foreign agency that cannot be mentioned here has been manipulating our President and Congress. It is about the Democratic Party reaching a tipping point of progressives that are no longer willing to be pushed out of the way It is about the need to reform the SCOTUS taking hold in a way that could overwhelm our political process.

Trump has lived his whole life in a small bubble. He doesn't understand these things. He doesn't believe there are millions of people who feel this way. In his mind, anything that benefits average people instead of billionaires is communism: from each according to their ability, to each according to their needs. That's as far as his brain goes.

Will he take this on to Cuba? Maybe. Undoubtedly that is part of his frequent secret calls with Putin. We know Trump's transactional mind says "Everthing in the western hemisphere is mine, and you can have everything in the eastern hemisphere." But that eastern hemisphere thing is not working out so well for Putin. He is now watching a mass exodus from Crimea, which will render moot his effort to capture the "land bridge" down the west bank of the Sea of Azov. If he loses Crimea, then that becomes a bridge to nowhere full of dead Russians.

So I am not sure we can count on Putin giving up Cuba.
