If you're wondering why some (actually many, unfortunately) women won't report assault [View all]

I'll regale the story of my aunt-
She was assaulted by her husband several times, and it escalated to near murder-and he got away with it in court. She was too afraid to show up in court (she moved across the country to get away from him), and they basically raked her over the coals, saying she was a bad mother, probably had a lover on the side, etc. (this was the 70's).

He died many years ago (hallejuah), and the last time I saw my aunt some twenty years ago, she said she was finally happy for the first time in many years. She passed away shortly after that visit, but I'm glad she had some peace.
