I don't think any of the Democrats know the true situation. There are many where making any claim could backfire spectacularly.

As it is the Republicans are down one Senate vote and will be until he returns or is replaced. I suspect there is a high probability that he is pretty ill and the several Republicans are not lying when they say they spoke to him because it would not benefit them

If that is the case, it would be beyond disgusting for anyone to try to make this an issue.
