An additional, horrifying detail: Brouillette was initially rejected by the military because of his mental health history. But recruiters encouraged him to go off his medications for a year and reapply, which he did, and he was then enlisted.
IF true, this is perhaps THE MOST horrifying detail of all, afaic. (I say "IF true," because this information comes to us secondhand, presumably based on what Brouillette told hs brother.) If those recruiters REALLY told him to go off his meds, they committed a wildly unethical, irresponsible, and immoral act that resulted in an already dangerous man being made much more dangerous than he already was.
And people wonder why nobody trusts the government these days!
