if they can generate something using tools trained illegally on other people's work.

IMO that's a type of AI psychosis. It's why we see so much horrible AI slop posted - wannabe creatives turned into divas because they're so impressed with themselves for getting AI to generate something for them, with no talent or knowledge or effort required.
