...if it is intentional or not.
Given it's DeChambeau, I tend to think he was doing it intentionally. But, the decision on the rules does not include intent because it can be so difficult to prove it.
So, any action taken that results in improved lie or path is a penalty.
BTW: he didn't run away. He's playing in the 3rd round right now. I think his manager spoke out of turn.
I don't even like him but I have to acknowledge that he never said he might go home. It was his big mouth msnager.
