(8,594 posts)A very good friend owned some property up in the mountains and would hold a yearly party for his birthday. It would usually have around 130-200 people each year. (He used to be a successful, long-time nightspot owner. One tends to make a lot of friends in such a profession.) The only issue with such events is that they tend to attract less than desirable people who think this is some kind of cartel site or something. He would usually make sure to kick them out and to inform them that they are being trespassed and cannot return.
One time, we had a few locals work their way into one of our parties and they were desperately trying to score cocaine the entire time. Like we were dealers who gathered to hold a yearly sell-a-thon. They were also rude and racist. So, they were shown the door.
Their revenge was to inform the local sheriff and the nearest town about the latest upcoming party and that we were dealing from the property as well as holding illegal alcohol sales on the site. (It was located in a 'dry' county. We had plenty up there, but we did not sell any, it was all free and community-oriented.) So, those LEOs decided that some townsfolk who had visited the site one time and lived nowhere near the site were the ones to believe. They set up an elaborate operation to catch us 'shipping in' stuff to sell. They got both on duty county deputies, two of the three town cops from the nearest town, as well as a state trooper! They set up a 'license checkpoint' right down the road from the entrance to my friend's place. And, they waited.
We on the site found out what was going on around noon that day. I stood and told everyone there that we should immediately go to that nearest town and ransack it while some of our friends tied up the checkpoint with suspicious things that were eventually found out to be nothing. We would clean out the entire town while they were out there trying to stop those 'hippie drug dealers' from doing their dirty deeds.
Oh, the final 'haul' for that expensive operation? They got two partygoers for simple possession (one in a wheelchair) and one for illegal concealed weapon (also in a wheelchair.) However they got NINE DUIs!
All locals.
(There is more about that night if you want to hear it. They sat at the end of our driveway for hours after the 'checkpoint' ended. They could not stand having to sit and do nothing. So...)
I assure you I am not the only one who noticed the imbalance in protection when some blowhard decided to gather said protectors in one spot for something that was questionable and derived in the first place. I hope others will capitalize on this imbalance, to be honest. That would go a long way to stopping such hosershit in the future.
Lastly, I want our Army to have a great 250th! It is just a shame that the orange gibbon has to ruin it for them by imposing his own agenda. He hates not being the center of attention, after all.
(BTW, there are fourteen units in our present Army that can trace their beginnings to The Revolution. Now, that is a legacy of fighting for the people! Hooah!)
