5. No one should be mistreated in prison

The current treatment of transgender people in US prisons is barbaric. They are being forced into conversion therapy and being ‘treated’ with quack science, when they are not being systematically raped daily while the prison guards laugh.

We should not torture people. As a society, we should be above this. It doesn’t matter what they did, even if it’s the most evil acts on earth.

I get the impulse to say “Child molesters deserve only the worst punishment.” However, by allowing this, we are as a society agreeing that some torture is ok. If torturing transgender child molesters is ok, then, maybe we can torture transgender thieves? If torturing transgender thieves is ok, maybe torturing thieves is ok? If torturing thieves is ok, maybe torture is ok for general use?

We are better than this, or, should be.
