It’s in the Eje Cafetero (Coffee Triangle). It’s one of the safest cities in Colombia but like everywhere you have to lookout for petty crime, a big thing here is someone coming by on a motorcycle and grabbing your cellphone. It’s about 350,000 people, so it’s about the size of Corpus Christi.

The weather here is fabulous. It seldom gets below 60 or above 80. Medellin is known as the City of Eternal Spring and the Coffee Triangle basically has the same weather. Even though it’s near the equator it’s cool because it’s in the Andes mountains about the same altitude as Denver.

Also, personal use of marijuana and coca is decriminalized. You are allowed to have up to 20 grams and can grow it. But you can’t smoke it in public and aren’t allowed to buy it or sell it. But generally buying it or smoking in public usually doesn’t result in any more than having it confiscated or perhaps a fine. Unless it’s an amount that they think you are trafficking.

I’m going to have to leave and go to Ecuador in August because although I can afford to live here on my Social Security and get a pensioner’s visa, I can’t afford to pay for a lawyer, documents and a year’s worth of health insurance all of which will cost about $2000. I’ll have to save up to be able to afford to get my pensioner’s visa. Or I might find I like it in Ecuador.

To top it all off, the food is healthier and I’ve lost 30 pounds and almost reversed my diabetes. My Hemoglobin A1C went from 7.2 to 5.6. I haven’t felt better in years.
