Granted, Cape Cod is a poor area that makes its year’s living off the tourists that visit from June to September.

But fresh wild-caught cod, which used to cost $17 a pound last year, was marked at $27 this year. Scallops that were $21 a pound for fresh wild caught last year, are $33. The farm-raised, recently thawed versions were way cheaper, OK, but that’s not what we came all the way here for. I.e. real food costs ridiculous amounts of money. You don’t need a doctorate in math from M.I.T. in order to understand that if the price if sustenance goes up 30% and wages go up 2% if at all, most people will experience a negative cash flow. That is only a few months away from asking for spare change at the entrance to local food stores.
