His lemmings will chew on the idea that these so-called "monuments" make him the greatest president of all time. And should he succeed with everything he starts (and I don't think we've seen the end of them), it will be desperately hard to erase all his markings right away. It will take years, decades, maybe even centuries to do it. He desperately wants people to not forget him. Even when he does die, it will be hard given all the crap he's done to the country.
