(5,558 posts)My company were guess of a suite holder, and the brass had invited employees there for the day. I signed up to go down into the pits and was in the first group to go. The cars were just making their way out of the garages, and it was interesting, seeing all the cars and the buzz of activity. Rick Mears, who won the race a few times, was shaking hands and greeting people. I waited patiently, and after I shook his hand, I turned back around to find myself no more than ten feet away from the one and only Paul Newman.
He was surrounded by people and involved in a conversation so I didn't try to approach. But, as I stood there, no doubt slack-jawed like all the other yokels, he looked in my direction with those piercing baby blues of his.
So, we didn't meet, but I'm still going to count that as a brush.
