I like to complain a lot, but when I look at it objectively, I'm actually doing alright for a person my age. I think I'm accepting the fact that I'm getting old, and stuff is going to go wrong, like it does to all of us eventually.

I used to smoke when I was younger. We had a smoke room at work. One of my smoking buddies was a lot older than me, and we used to mock each other mercilessly. Every morning, he would come into that smoke room, all cheerful like, and say "Every day above ground is a good day"! Being the young wise ass that I was, I would say "Right. Is that a saying you learned back in the 1930s"?

But now I know he was right. Every day above ground is a good day.
