Now that Agony Airlines (originally Allegheny Airlines, which morphed into USAir) has taken over American, their quality of service, never exactly a bragging point, has slipped to negative territory.

Here in Europe, unfortunately, air lines have been studying the situation in the states. While the maintenance issue seems to be better here, Lufthansa, for example, has now dropped many of their European routes and handed them to "German Wings," a budget airline they bought. German Wings is basically "Lufthansa Light," which means you have to pay for luggage and even tea, coffee or water on the plane. I'm sure that in the future, if you want air to breathe during the flight, you'll have to pay for that, too.
