My F-i-L had a button accordion which I inherited so I knew how to play that. I messed around with a concertina at a used musical instrument store here in town.
The concertina is a little simpler to play (not a lot) and has a thinner, brighter sound.
On some German concertinas the note shifts depending on whether you are squeezing the bellows in vs. pulling it out. Makes it a little different to play than the English style.
As with many folk instruments, it's an easy instrument to attain enough competence to play some songs. Takes much more effort to get to the "very good" level.
There are very likely good YouTube tutorials available.
