Areas around here have several dozens, so 12 is a small number. I have males hanging out on my gutters, the outside

Louisiana. Friends in New Orleans tell me they've seen them over the winter. Not here though. Not yet.

I'm in SW CENLA and we get too much winter for them even though we don't get much of a winter at all.

Somewhere between the two, yes. I prefer Creole dishes though I won't say no to a crawfish boil. Not a fan of boudin.

Those are ruby-throated hummingbirds. They migrate south for the winter. They are usually gone by mid-September.

They'll leave here soon too. I'll prepare for next year with more feeders and more flowers.

Bees will get lazy and leave the flowers alone. There are flowers right next to the feeders and the hummers , bees, and

I love watching all the critters flying around my flowers. My zinnias are still going but I'm letting them go to seed.

That one is a mean female. She was pecking the heads of other hummingbirds to get them away. She turned to look at me

I was too close and one pooped on me. Didn't mean to, I'm sure. Just being a bird in flight.

LOL! They use their poop and pee as a weapon against other hummingbirds. To drive them away.

I didn't either until I witnessed them charging at another hummer and then turning their bottoms up and letting loose.

I'm always sad when they are no longer around. I feed all the birds, so I'll turn my full attention to them.
