Steve Scalise says he's set to undergo additional surgery, asks for continued support [View all]
WASHINGTON Congressman Steve Scalise will go under the surgeons scalpel Wednesday, the latest chapter in his seven-month-long recovery from a gunshot wound suffered during a June attack.
Scalise, a Jefferson Parish Republican and the House majority whip, said Tuesday morning the procedure had been scheduled for more than a month. Hes already undergone several major surgeries and spent about three months in a Washington, D.C., hospital recovering.
The 52-year-old lawmaker was shot through the hip by a lone gunman during an early morning congressional Republican baseball practice on June 14 in a northern Virginia suburb of Washington. The shooter, a 66-year-old Illinois man whod penned rage-filled screeds against Republican politicians, was killed by police officers assigned to protect Scalise and others responding to the gunfire.
I look forward to getting this done and getting back to work, Scalise said, adding he hopes to be back in the coming weeks.
