Gary Peters(D-MI) US Senate Races in 2014 and 2020. [View all]

In 2014(Republican wave election year) Peters defeated his Republican opponent(Former 2 term MI Secretary of State Terry Lynn Land) by a 13 percent margin. In 2014, Republicans won every other MI Statewide Elections in 2014.
In 2020(Presidential Election Year- Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden won MI by a 2.78 percent margin.) Gary Peters defeated his Republican opponent(2018 MI US Senate Republican nominee John James) by a 1.68 percent margin.
The question that I need to ask is why was the 2020 MI US Senate election way closer than the 2014 MI US Senate Election? How will Peters perform in 2026? A Democrat with a pulse like Gretchen Whitmer,Garlin Gilchrist,Jocelyn Benson,Dana Nessel,Hillary Scholten, and Haley Stevens will win by a narrow to high single digit margin. Garlin Gilchrist,Jocelyn Benson,or Dana Nessel are also likely to run for Governor to suceed Gretchen Whitmer. Should the MI Democratic Party replace Gary Peters with Gretchen Whitmer who is finishing her 2nd term as MI Governor and unable to run for MI Governor again in 2026 due to term limits?
