If you use Firefox and add the NoScript extension (it's easy to get and install), not only will you never see another ad, but it blocks all Java, JavaScript, and Flash from running on your computer, unless you specifically allow it. Since computer nasties tend to infect through those means, it'll keep you safer, too.

Some sites will want to run as many as 30 (!) different scripts on their pages, most of which are ads and tracking, which, especially if you have an older computer, will really slow it down.

I can't praise NoScript enough. (You might have guessed that!) When I'm forced to use another browser that doesn't have it, I feel naked and vulnerable.
