Has anyone ever ripped dvds to their iPad successfully from their Mac? [View all]

A quick search names something called Handbrake for copying dvds that you own onto your iPad for later viewing.

Has anyone had luck doing this without anything weird happening? I'm not a fan of loading unheard of software onto my MacBook.

Thanks in advance.
