Yesterday

... the behavior described is seriously out of character for a wolf, or, for that matter, any wild animal.
We live in an extremely rural and heavily forested area, so encounters with wild carnivores are not uncommon, and we've seen a few rabid animals in the 35 years we've lived here.
Failure of the authorities to follow protocols for rabies could be a death sentence for that woman.
