3. UK breaks hottest June day record for third day in a row

The Met Office has just confirmed that a new provisional record for the hottest June day has been set once again, with 36.9C recorded at Wattisham, Suffolk.

“And temperatures are still rising,” it added.

Remember how unusual it this: this is the third time this week when we have a new record.

Also, awkwardly, Wattisham is not even in the area covered by the red extreme heat alert…

The Met Office forecast is now showing highs of 38 C for places in East Anglia (Norfolk and Suffolk) today. Highs are usually reached between 4 and 5pm - so 2 to 3 hours from now. On the continent, it looks like the Netherlands and NW Germany will have it worst today.
