7. "Dead" microwaves usually blow a small fuse.

When you yank open the door, the switches in the latching mechanism turn off the power to the magnetron. If the switch doesn't open quickly enough, the current to the magnetron spikes because it is now trying to flood the kitchen with microwaves and the fuse blows.

I had a project for which I needed a transfomer from a dead microwave, so I advertised a wanted ad on freecycle. It took three microwaves before someone finally brought me one that was actually dead.
