NC Gun Laws Changing [View all]

http://www.twcnews.com/nc/triangle-sandhills/news/2015/11/30/nc-gun-laws-changing.html

The Amend Firearms Act, which is meant to loosen some gun restrictions, underwent tough scrutiny and a lot of debate in the legislature. Ultimately, some of the most contested measures were removed, including an attempt to do away with the state's pistol permit requirement.

“We have to understand that our pistol permit law is actually a leftover Jim Crow law intended to deny firearms to minorities,” said Paul Valone with Grass Roots, NC. “Sheriffs have been using it to arbitrarily deny permits for decades.”

...

Under the law, the pistol permits will now become standardized across the state. It also limits the information the sheriff can require before issuing the permit and says that the sheriff may only look five years into the conduct of an applicant’s background during the process.

Yet another pro-2A victory.
