Something I forgot to mention about my wellness check [View all]
They brought out that tablet for the new cognitive test. Now, I took that the last time and it was INSANE. A whole lot of numbers/patterns, etc. Well, I have a strong case of dyslexia that particularly involves transposing numbers. Needless to day, I didn't do well. It didn't help that my anxiety kicked in, BIG TIME. Fortunately, my NP said not to worry because he couldn't pass it, either. He sees no hint of any cognitive issues.
So this time I let the med tech know about my struggle with numbers. She immediately said 'We can do this one, instead.' and I got to draw a clock set at 3:20 and remember 4 words. I PASSED!!!!!!
Admittedly, dementia is a big concerned because Alzheimer's took out my mom. one of her sisters and two of her brothers. I'm always super alert to any changes in my routine. And, of course, my family is also aware of the signs and, trust me, they'd let me know if they were the least bit alerted. Fortunately, I seem to have drawn a lot of my genetics from my Dad's side of the family. Going back to my grandfather, great grandfather, great uncles, etc., most were coal miners in Wales and Maryland, and they died of Black Lung. I never took up coal mining. The women seemed to live in to their 80's, even up to 104 years and non suffered from any form of dementia. Just a whole lot of feistiness.
Anyway, has anyone else taken that new cognitive test?
