but I didn't get the impression that his motive was to secure his place in history. I was curious whether at this point late in life he is feeling some remorse or possibly wanting to spare the families of his victims from never knowing what happened. I don't think we can get into the mind of someone capable of committing so many senseless murders, but I do wonder whether there is any empathy there.
