Let's check on that Golden Age: Arkansas school district to refer overdue lunch balances to collections agency [View all]
SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) A school district in Arkansas is asking parents to pay off negative meal account balances for their students, claiming the total is approaching $500,000 across the district, officials say.
As part of its Erase the Debt campaign, the Siloam Springs School District (SSSD) could also refer balances of over $100 to a collection agency, the school district says.
Families with negative balances will receive reminders, payment links, and information about payment plans over the next several weeks via texts, emails, and letters home, so we can work together to clear accounts by May 1st, reads a Facebook post explaining the campaign.
The campaign was put in place after the board of education for the SSSD passed a resolution in March advising the administration to seek options for collecting on significant and outstanding debts and delinquent accounts.
