The thing is now, Cannabis is now legal in the State of California, for recreational purposes and a doctor's signature is no longer needed because if you are 21 and older, you can purchase weed.

However, Federally the plant is still illegal, and trying to bring down the entire operation from states that have made it legal would be a major task for the DEA. Under Obama they were told to leave the legal states alone, but of course we know how Jeff Sessions will be when it comes to states that have legalized it. I really hope he is removed from office, as he is the type who will go after dispensaries and their clients and smoking or using Cannabis could be a setback, and a boom for Federal Prisons or The FOR PROFIT prison business.
