This from a Chicago Council-Ipsos survey conducted February 27-March 1, 2026:

79% of Americans are concerned about Iran’s funding of terrorist organizations,

76% of Americans are concerned about Iran's suppression of popular protests, and

75% of Americans are concerned about the possibility of Iran developing nuclear weapons,

meanwhile only:

49% expressed support for US airstrikes against Iran’s nuclear facilities, and

39% said they would support using US troops to destroy Iran’s nuclear facilities

So, the vast majority of Americans specifically disfavor Iran due to the threat that nation poses both to its own people and those residing in other countries. But, half or fewer are willing to actually do anything about it. That's the kind of disconnect that gives rise to Trump doing whatever the hell he wants since - as he said during his now infamous 8 minute pre-recorded speech on February 28th "No president was willing to do what I am willing to do tonight. Now you have a president who is giving you what you want." These words referenced the Iranian people but were spoken to the American people.
