Lombardi had supported Kennedy in Wisconsin, and had his private phone number. Paul Hornung was in the National Guard, serving on active duty in December 1961. He called the coach to tell him he couldn’t get a furlough to be able to play in the NFL championship game against the Giants. Lombardi hung up, and called JFK.

Hornung rushed for 89 yards in that game, and scored 19 total points in Green Bay’s 37-0 win.

The only thing Trump had in common with Trump was that they both attended Fordham (about 30 years apart — Lombardi was one of the Seven Blocks of Granite). Lombardi graduated; Trump transferred.
