Many years ago I was visiting, and she was listening to Michael Savage. I told her the problem with these guys is, they’re glib, they’re good at what they do, and they have $$$ of resources behind them doing production. Sooner or later, you find their words coming out of your mouth unbidden.

Fast forward to just before Covid, and on one visit Mom was giving me the usual RW talking points and what scum Newsome was, and followed that with a baseless accusation that had been thoroughly debunked, which I pointed out to her. But she kept coming back to it all visit, repeating it anyway.

Finally, I’d had it, and I said something like “Well, Newsome outlawed combustion engines in five years, so we need to be thinking about getting rid of the truck”. Or something similarly outlandish. She bit, hook line and sinker, and even though I tried really gently to walk her back through it, and how she was so ready to believe without questioning how outlandish it sounded, it had zero effect.

RW media has done their job well. We never had anything but the facts on our side, and most of the time they’re pretty dry.
