They won't work in every district but they will in democratic districts. Get solid, well educated and good communicators, it can never go back to status quo, the entire system needs and overhaul and if you don't your democracy will go down. Even if you elected democrats, if they are not willing to do the hard work to change, it will happen again, only with someone smarter and you will lose your democracy. The rest of the world knows this, the people of the US should, but don't seem to.
