But Obama wasn’t running as a democratic socialist.

El Sayed can win, but he’ll need to not only run up his numbers in Wayne County (I think he’ll improve on Harris in some of the suburbs), but keep Rogers margins down in the rural areas. That part is hard to say.

His main focus should be to follow the Mamdani playbook and focus less on foreign policy and more on inflation/cost of living/affordability. He may be disciplined enough in his messaging, but I have no idea about some of his supporters who may want to make this about Israel. If he’s made to look like some sort of Hamas supporter, he won’t win.

Trump’s popularity in the state has nosedived.l and besides he barely won it. Likewise, Rogers barely lost it. Rogers is perceived as a moderate so he’ll need to be tied to Trump and his polices.
