Every day, Jeffries, Schumer and other leaders should gather for a press conference where a clear, consistent message of protest is delivered, and each of these sessions should end with a reading from the Constitution:
Let me remind the media, the Congress and the Cabinet that the Constitution calls all of us to do our solemn duty to end this. The 25th Amendment states, and I quote:
'The Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit ... to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue.... If the Congress ... determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office'
It is time that the Cabinet must act. Today, not tomorrow, not next week after more people are killed, after more of the taxpayers' money has been misappropriated, after more cities have been invaded by Trump's private army, after more vital international alliances have been trashed. Today. We call on the Cabinet and Vice President to do their duty under the Constitution -- TODAY!
Put the pressure on the Cabinet and the Republicans in Congress. We know they won't act, but that's OK. Keep the spotlight sharply on them. Do this every day, and soon reporters will be asking each Cabinet member, "When is the Cabinet going to meet pursuant to the 25th Amendment? Why have you not done so already? What would the President have to do to make you act?"
