Judge Throws Save Boca Measures Off January Special-Election Ballot Tied to Downtown Project [View all]

BOCA RATON, FL — A Palm Beach County Circuit judge on Tuesday threw the two ballot questions that the advocacy group Save Boca wanted to put in front of Boca Raton voters off a January special-election ballot.

Ned Kimmelman, a retired lawyer, sued Save Boca, which was formed to fight against Boca Raton’s proposal to redevelop 30 downtown acres into a government campus, its founder, Jon Pearlman, the city and the supervisor of elections office.

He recently dropped Pearlman and Save Boca from the lawsuit. Nonetheless, the judge ruled on the language used on their ballot initiative.

“The ballot language drafted by Save Boca raised a number of issues as to interpretation, implementation, and costs,” Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer said in a statement. “We await the court’s written decision on what additional legal issues it identified.”
