My Dad had this issue. He had surgery a few times, but this was back in the 60's... he lived to be 86...
What is your diet like? I think a diet with fiber, is good? I remember after I left the house, he would ridicule my healthy diet (whole wheat bread etc) but then he had to do that b/c of diabetes. I don't remember him having that problem after adding these things to his diet.
Have they suggested a dietary change for you? I would try that to avoid surgery.
